Commercial Projects
Fairbanks Mill does not specialize in commercial construction projects. However, special project circumstances may indicate to an owner that Fairbanks Mill’s involvement may be the best solution to a particular development puzzle. Time constraints, impossible access, complex scheduling, or fragmented project management are all issues that can be dealt with by FM’s experienced management team.
Retail Store Fit-Up – Supermarket
As construction manager, Fairbanks Mill was responsible for the integrated coordination of building trades, equipment and fixture installation, and final fit-up. Under-slab conduit, piping, and ductwork are particularly complex in the supermarket environment. Because FM crews can self perform many of the trades in-house as required, the very demanding schedule could be accommodated.
Communications Tower – Antennae Enclosure
As delivered from the factory, this prefabricated fiberglass enclosure is rated to withstand winds of 150 miles per hour. The task for Fairbanks Mill was to mount it on top of the roof of the tramway station on top of Jay Peak. Working with structural engineers and the Jay Peak Ski Resort, a structural steel base was built to transfer the significant wind loads into foundations of the tram house. Components were brought up by tramway car and hoisted onto the roof for assembly. The actual enclosure was hoisted onto the roof with a gin pole system and hinges incorporated into the structural base.
Retail Showroom – Welding Supply Store Renovations
The renovation of this retail store involved many building code compliance issues as the owner wished to utilize the basement area for storage of welding equipment and accessories. A new hoistway system and associated fire code rated enclosure were constructed. Fairbanks Mill handled the entire project, including the involvement of a structural engineer and Vermont Department of Labor and Industries submittals.
